Abundently Blessed on Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve a lot of the Cross Pointe family was away this year, but this didn’t stop God from showing us He’s an abundant Lord and has plans for Cross Pointe.  Pastor Holdner notes, “It was our largest service with 202 people.  It was uplifting to have so many gathered to worship.  A wonderful milestone, for Cross Pointe, one of many for Cross Pointe, as we walk with our Lord and King Jesus Christ.”

the smiles on the faces of the children who will receive these gifts of love. In addition to the shoeboxes, children will also receive a booklet in
their own language, “The Greatest Gift of All,” and hear about the Good News of Christ. Thank you Cross Pointe for your generosity as we share God’s love.

“Bryce (Pastor Jay’s son) helped deliver 60 Operation Christmas Child Shoe Boxes to the sorting depot. He was impressed by the thousands of boxes headed oversees.”

Bright Lights Volunteer at Toy Warehouse

The Bright Lights girls group has been meeting since September, and we decided as a group to volunteer during the Christmas season. On December 10 we spent 3 hours at the Salvation Army’s Toy Warehouse. Our job was to select toys, and other items that had been donated through Toy Mountain, for families who would be receiving a Christmas Hamper from the Salvation Army.

The purpose of doing volunteer work was for the girls to learn to give selflessly, without thoughts of what was in it for them, to understand about giving without getting anything in return. But volunteering with the Salvation Army’s Christmas Hamper program was so rewarding, the girls did get something in return. They sincerely enjoyed being able to help provide a brighter Christmas for a family in need. It was also a tremendous opportunity for the girls to see the generosity of others; they saw Christ alive in the Christmas season. While choosing the gift items the girls were very serious and thoughtful, and gave careful consideration to each item they selected. There was genuine love and compassion in their hearts; love for Christ, and for people.

“This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God.”—2 Corinthians 9:12

Hey Cross Pointe lets keep Bright Lights in our prayers. Also you can follow Kelly’s blog to support this ministry as well – http://kellys3gnetwork.wordpress.com/

Feed the Hungry Campaign

On Sunday, June 14 Cross Pointe Church took part in its second annual Feed the Hungry Campaign. Bagged lunches were packed and distributed to those in need in downtown Calgary. A Bible verse was also included in the bags given out, in the effort to reach spiritual as well as physical needs. A special thanks goes out to Roxanna Lamberts on behalf of Cross Pointe Ladies Fellowship, who organized the Garage Sale to raise funds for this ministry, as well as those who helped with the garage sale and those who gave their time to pack and distribute the lunches. By giving freely to those in need, we can express God’s love through our actions. “But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous” (Luke 14:13,14).

First Covenant Partner announced for the South Calgary Mission

It was a typical visit to the post-office on July 12th, but a surprise was waiting. Pastor Holdner opened a letter addressed the LWML of Redeemer Lutheran Church – Kitimat, B.C. It was a surprise that they would be the first Covenant Partner (enclosing a financial gift of $300) to be put to work in Bethel’s South Calgary Mission Project. Pastor Holdner, said, “It was very touching, since Redeemer is a mission congregation itself with limited resources.” It is hoped, this will be the first of many partners in the mission, allowing the ministry in South Calgary to continue. Covenant Partner forms are available off the main page for download.
